Important Updates for Rapides Parish Filers

Two things are worth knowing before you file or search records in Rapides Parish. First, fax filings were banned effective January 1, 2026 under Act 352. You can no longer submit civil case documents by fax to the Rapides Parish Clerk of Court. All filings must now go in by hand, by mail, or through an approved electronic filing system. If you have been filing by fax in the past, switch to another method before submitting new documents.

Second, pre-1865 records in Rapides Parish were destroyed in a Civil War fire. If you are researching historical property records, old civil cases, or other documents from before the Civil War, those records are gone. The fire destroyed what would have been some of the oldest records in the parish. Research going back before 1865 in Rapides Parish will likely hit a dead end at the clerk's office. You may need to look at federal records, newspaper archives, or other sources for that era.

For records from 1865 onward, the clerk maintains a full and continuous record set. The RAPID E-Search portal and eClerks LA both provide access to more recent civil court records. Staff at the Alexandria courthouse can also help you search older paper records within what survives.
